Stems were bent at the base at varying heights from ground level to about 3 inches (8 cm).

Stalks were straight above the initial bend that knocked over the plants. I saw no node bends.

At the time of my visit, the heads in the standing crop were curved over. The weight of the mature seed head and drying of the stalk immediately below the head allows the seed head to droop. It's an open question whether these stems were straight when they fell, or if the process of flattening the crop straighted bent stems.
